Genuine vs Aftermarket vs Budget Car Parts: Which Should You Buy in Pakistan?

For most car owners in Pakistan, Leading Aftermarket parts offer the best value for money. They typically cost 40–60% of the genuine price and, in our experience, last around 60–80% as long. Genuine parts have the longest lifespan at the highest price, while Budget Aftermarket parts cost the least but have a noticeably shorter lifespan.

This guide compares the three grades on price, lifespan, quality and availability, and explains which grade suits which part and which situation.

What are the three grades?

Every part on MrParts.Pk is listed under one of three grades:

  • Genuine: original parts supplied under the vehicle manufacturer's name, such as Toyota Genuine and Honda Genuine.
  • Leading Aftermarket: replacement parts from established international manufacturers, such as DEPO, TYG, Akebono, NGK and Denso.
  • Budget Aftermarket: lower-cost replacement parts from brands such as AGP, MK Kashiyama and FPI, mainly from manufacturers in Malaysia, Thailand and China.

Leading Aftermarket gives the best balance: it costs around half the genuine price but keeps most of the lifespan, and fit and performance issues are rare. Budget Aftermarket costs roughly a quarter to half of the genuine price, so it suits buyers for whom the lowest upfront cost matters most.

Genuine parts can be hard to find, particularly for older models. When supply is short, genuine prices can rise well above their normal level.

Which grade should you buy for each part?

For most parts we recommend Leading Aftermarket, but the reasons differ by category.

Lighting

For headlights, tail lights and fog lights, we recommend DEPO, our Leading Aftermarket lighting brand. DEPO lights have a UV-protective lens and are made from quality materials under strict quality control, which helps prevent the yellowing and fading common in cheaper lights. The chrome finish is comparable to genuine, and the reflector directs light as designed. DEPO holds ECE and SAE/DOT certifications for its lights, and several of its products are CAPA-approved.

Body parts

For bumpers, grilles, mirrors and panels, we recommend TYG, our Leading Aftermarket body parts brand. TYG uses higher-grade plastics and precise moulds, so parts fit correctly and keep their shape and appearance over time. TYG is also an original equipment supplier to international car makers, so its material and quality checks match that standard.

Service parts

For filters and spark plugs, we recommend NGK, Denso and Bosch. All three are global names that supply car manufacturers directly, and they are widely trusted for quality.

Brake parts

For brake pads, shoes and discs, we recommend Leading Aftermarket brands that also supply car manufacturers: Akebono and Nissin for Japanese makes, and Brembo, Textar and Zimmermann for European makes. See our Brake Parts range.

Which grade suits your situation?

  • You want the longest life and plan to keep the car for many years: Genuine. It costs the most but lasts the longest.
  • You want the best value for an everyday car: Leading Aftermarket. You get most of the lifespan of genuine at around half the price, which is why we recommend it for most customers.
  • Your car is an older model: Leading Aftermarket. Genuine parts for older models are often scarce, and their prices can rise to unreasonable levels as a result. Leading Aftermarket parts remain available at a steady price.
  • You are repairing accident damage: Leading Aftermarket for body parts and lighting. TYG and DEPO match the look and finish of the original parts at a lower cost than genuine.
  • The Leading Aftermarket part isn't available, or costs too much: Budget Aftermarket from brands we recommend, such as AGP for body parts and MK Kashiyama for brake parts. These offer a sound alternative at a lower price.
  • You are selling the car soon, or need the lowest upfront cost: Budget Aftermarket. It costs roughly a quarter to half of the genuine price, but expect a shorter lifespan.

Where possible, we stock each part in at least two grades, so you can compare them and choose the one that suits you. Every product page clearly states the make and model the part fits, along with its grade and brand.
