Akebono Brake Parts in Pakistan: Quality, Price and How They Compare to Genuine

Stop-start traffic in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad wears brake pads out much faster than highway driving. When it is time to replace them, most owners ask the same question: pay for genuine, or find something just as good for less?

For most Japanese cars, Akebono is that option. Akebono is a Japanese brake manufacturer that supplies original-fit brakes to Toyota, Honda and Nissan, and it is the Leading Aftermarket brake brand we stock at MrParts.Pk. An Akebono pad costs between a third and half of the genuine price. If you want to spend less again, MK Kashiyama is our Budget Aftermarket option. This guide covers who Akebono is, how its parts compare with genuine, prices in Pakistan, and how to order the right part.

What is Akebono?

Akebono Brake Industry was founded in Japan in 1929, and its first products were brake linings. Today it is one of Japan's largest brake manufacturers, making brake pads, brake shoes and linings, and complete disc and drum brake systems.

  • Original equipment supplier: Akebono supplies brakes to car makers including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Isuzu.
  • Motorsport: it supplied brake calipers and pads to the McLaren Formula 1 team from 2007 to 2021.
  • Friction specialist: it makes its own friction material, the part of the pad or shoe that does the stopping.

An Akebono pad is not sold as a genuine Toyota or Honda part, because genuine parts come through the car maker's own parts channel and packaging. What you get is a pad from one of the companies car makers themselves trust for original-fit brakes, without paying for the car maker's branding.

MK Kashiyama: the budget option

MK Kashiyama is a Japanese brake friction specialist. It was founded in 1960 as Kashiyama Press Industry, started out making drum brake shoes, added disc brake pads as cars moved to disc brakes, and took the MK Kashiyama name in 1987. It also runs a factory in Thailand.

MK Kashiyama is our Budget Aftermarket brake brand. It costs less than Akebono and suits owners who want a Japanese brand at a lower price. Browse our MK brake pads and brake shoes on our MK Kashiyama page.

Which brake parts do we stock?

  • Akebono brake pads for the Honda City, Civic, Accord, Fit, CR-V and Vezel, the Toyota Corolla, Aqua, Prius and Premio, and the Lexus CT and LX.
  • MK Kashiyama brake pads and brake shoes for a wide range of Japanese cars.

Browse the range on our Akebono page and MK Kashiyama page, or in our Brake Parts category. The same model can use different pads depending on its year, variant and whether it is the front or rear axle, so always match the part number.

Signs your car needs new brake parts

  • Squealing when you brake, often the wear indicator on a worn pad.
  • Grinding, which can mean the pad is worn through. Have it checked immediately.
  • Longer stopping distances than usual.
  • Vibration through the pedal or steering when braking, which can point to a worn or uneven disc.
  • A brake warning light, which can mean low brake fluid, the parking brake or a system fault.

If braking gets noticeably worse, stop when it is safe and have the car checked before driving on.

Brake care for Pakistani driving conditions

  • Have your brakes checked at every service, more often if you drive mostly in city traffic.
  • Ask your mechanic to check the discs or drums whenever the pads or shoes are changed.
  • Check the brake fluid as your car's manual recommends.
  • Avoid unnecessary hard braking and keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
  • Bed in new pads with a few gentle stops before braking hard.

There is no single replacement interval for every car. Brake life depends on how and where you drive, the car, and the parts fitted.

Should you buy Akebono for your car?

If you want the dealer part in dealer packaging, choose genuine. For most everyday cars, Akebono gives you brakes from an original equipment supplier at a third to half of the genuine price. If price matters most, MK Kashiyama is the Japanese budget option. For how the three grades compare across all parts, see Genuine vs Aftermarket vs Budget Car Parts.

How to order the right brake parts

  1. Note your model, year and variant, for example Corolla XLi, GLi or Altis, or Civic Reborn or X, since variants can use different brakes.
  2. Choose front or rear. Front and rear pads are different parts, and many cars use pads at the front and shoes at the rear.
  3. Check the part number on the product page against your old pads or shoes, or the photos.
  4. If unsure, ask us. Call or WhatsApp +92 330 6772787 with your car's model and year before ordering.

We deliver to more than 200 cities by TCS to your door or Daewoo to your nearest terminal, and all orders are covered by our 7-day returns policy.

What is the price of Akebono brake pads in Pakistan?

It depends on the car and whether you need front or rear pads. For example, Akebono front pads for the Civic 2016–2026 are PKR 7,500 against PKR 22,900 for genuine, and rear pads for the Corolla 2009–2026 are PKR 6,800 against PKR 13,500. Check the product page for the current price.

No. Akebono supplies original equipment brakes to car makers, but an Akebono-boxed pad is an aftermarket part, not a genuine Toyota or Honda part. We list it under our Leading Aftermarket grade.

Genuine parts are sold through the car maker's own parts channel and packaging. Aftermarket parts are made and sold by other companies. Quality varies by brand, which is why we grade aftermarket parts as Leading or Budget.
